Tarirai Muoni is a Zimbabwean who is currently doing his PhD in Crop Production Ecology at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, affiliated with International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI, Nairobi). He is mainly focused on the use of legumes in smallholder farming systems in sub-Saharan Africa with main emphasis on farmer perceptions and legume productivity.

He is working with all legume types (grain, forage and tree legumes), which have potential to increase food and nutrition security. Previously he has worked with International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) (2009-2015) as a research intern. At CIMMYT he worked under Conservation Agriculture and managed to complete Master of Philosophy Degree in Agriculture Crop Protection at University of Zimbabwe. His research was more focused on weed management under conservation agriculture in southern Africa. He also did his research for Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture (University of Zimbabwe), at CIMMYT.

With that exposure Tarirai has developed skills including scientific writing, data collection and analysis, developing research proposals and interaction with farmers of different cultures. He is a flexible guy, who is always willing to learn and help promote sustainable agriculture systems in smallholder farms of sub-Saharan Africa.
